Lafayette Remembered At Frederick Bridge Ceremony
A 500 strong crowd gathered Friday near Jug Bridge to unveil a six ton native stone marker and a bronze plaque honoring General Marquis de Lafayette. Edward St Delaplaine presided as speakers including General Georges Dumont Henry Baker and Congressman Frederick N Zihlman. A reception at the Courthouse followed with DAR officials, then a banquet at the Francis Scott Key Hotel where T Scott Offutt spoke on the Constitution. The marker notes Lafayette’s 1824 visit to Frederick and was erected by the Sergeant Lawrence Everhart Chapter, Sons of the American Revolution.
