A long reported exchange recounts controversy over who reached the North Pole first. Dr. Frederick Cook disputes Peary’s claim and provides details of supply depots and voyages, while correspondence suggests misstatements and disagreements about on board status and on route.
The diary excerpt recounts confusion around command at a depot with Penry Murphy and Harry Whitney. Dr. Cook notes claims of a vanishing party and Peary’s boat crew influencing information about movements toward the Arctic pass.
Dr Cook notes the Danes have long known of his whaling exploits and that he has supplied the Danish government with the finest pivots of his deeds. He now plans to lay these proofs before a competent lady in America.
In 1908 Peary argued Cook might have reached the North Pole without leaving any trace of his path. From Batule Harbor Labrador on September 18 after rest for the Roosevelt crew, Peary prepared to head to Sydney. A Tyrlan journalist interview with Commander Hobert Penry noted Cook’s possible routes and time between Cook’s dash and Peary’s own voyage.

Reports from Riace near Rome describe a bomb explosion devastating three houses and killing twelve including a woman who reportedly killed herself after taking her baby. Many others were wounded. the scene lay near a field about a mile from the city. A separate obituary notes Rt Rev William George McCloskey, bishop of Kentucky, dies after long illness at age 68.
