Great Frederick Fair opens its 123rd edition
The 123rd Great Frederick Fair opened at 8 am on a cool sunny day with a forecast of more of the same. Officials expect a bumper crowd as events kick off including the Maryland Draft Horse and Mule Association Show, a ribbon cutting for the poultry building, and judging across 4-H, beef, and dairy classes. The Farm Family of the Year, the Smiths, attended a noon luncheon, while horses and mules dominated the grounds with halter and hitching classes and an obstacle demonstration.

County balks at city's annexation plan
Frederick County Commissioners oppose Freder ick Citys bid to annex 300 acres northeast of the city between U S 15 and Md 26 south of the Monocacy River. They worry over enclaves traffic and the counties water and sewer plans to shape future growth and possibly curb the citys expansion. The debate centers on whether the city can annex land on Md 26 without annexing Frederick Trading Company and the legal implications of enclave development.
