Navy Rescues 3 From Lost Sailboat Galilee Near Honolulu
Julian Ritter, 61, and two crew members survived 49 days adrift after their 45 foot sailboat Galilee was found by the Navy ship Niagara ninety-two miles northwest of Honolulu. The trio, who left Tahiti June 17, endured algae broth spiced with nutmeg and other plants, ate a philodendron and an elephant ear plant, and caught six flying fish and two squid to stay alive. A Coast Guard cutter would tow the boat to Pearl Harbor. Ritter plans to write a book and then sell the vessel.
