Southern education spending gaps and Maryland study notes
The Southern Regional Education Board reports Maryland spends as little as 4 per 1000 of personal income on public education while Maryland has high per capita income and a large share of college-age youth in college. Mississippi spends 7.80 per 1000 with half Maryland’s income. The study notes colleges in the South receive more tax dollars but still trail the national average.
