The Frederick Arts Council sponsors a public display of artwork for the past two years and cosponsors the exhibit this year with the Easter Seal Treatment Center of the Western Maryland district, assisting Walkersville Grange in operating a refreshment booth. The event includes Carroll and Washington Counties and invites all artists and craft authors to participate.
About 200 officials and Civil War buffs from Pennsylvania and Maryland gathered under threatening skies in Sharpsburg to observe the first anniversary of the Battle of Antietam. The event opened at the Maryland monument and proceeded to the Pennsylvania monuments with wreaths placed at each. Participants included Dr Walter H Schealy president of last year’s Antietam Centennial Commission General W Morgan of Altoona PA SK Stevens of Harrisburg and Dr Ervin Richman assistant historian of Pennsylvania.
The text lists Mrs Jennings Mrs Bertram Haines Mrs Laurence Leonard and others as officers or members of the Arts Council with titles indicating a committee or executive roles.
