Regulation Milk Prices Recommended for Maryland Area
The Agriculture Department proposed a federal program to regulate basic milk prices across most of Maryland with controls on minimum payments to dairymen. The plan mirrors Washington market rates with Class 2 prices set at 3.55 per hundredweight for eight months and 5.10 for March through June, aiming to stabilize prices and supplies. The marked area covers Baltimore and surrounding counties plus Laurel and part of Calvert County. Public comments were invited by Oct 3, and two-thirds producer support is needed for final approval.
