Blake is at large. fugitive in San Francisco escape linked

Sheriff Horace M. Alexander disclosed a letter from San Francisco officials stating George Wilson Blake escaped jail there and has since appeared in Portland before being brought to Frederick County. Blake was awaiting trial on four indictments after arrest in San Francisco, with detainers placed by Frederick County. The California letter offered no escape details, only confirming the escape and plans to contact authorities.

Declarations of Estimated Income Filed to Final Hour

Deputy collectors of Interval Revenue worked until midnight at the post office assisting taxpayers filing declarations of estimated income and victory tax. Tokyo report via Tokyo radio and AP records says the Japanese liner Yamato Maru with 1095 aboard was sunk by a submarine on Sept 13 near Formosa. Japanese warships destroyed the submarine and 7064 people were rescued by nearby ships.
