Tug Israel W. Durham Sinks in Delaware River Disaster
In Wilmington on September 16, the tug Israel W. Durham sank during a heavy storm with a crew of captain, five sailors and four dredging company workers aboard. Only Clarence Jackson and John Williams survived clinging to the pilot house. seven others including captain William Gropp and four Camden and Philadelphia workers perished.
