Aiding prison escape case yields suspended three year sentence
A 19 year old Walkersville woman Carol Elizabeth West pleaded guilty to aiding in an attempted escape from Montgomery County Detention Center last October. Judge John J. Mitchell suspended a three year jail term and placed her on three years of supervised probation with 350 hours of community service. She had entered the jail with a .357 Magnum and a propane torch and went undetected for hours while torching a window barrier. West has already completed 150 hours of service and works at Frederick Memorial Hospital. The incident followed a plan to aid Archie James Mitchell alias Frank or Edward Lupo. The friend Taupo at sentencing received 28 years for armed robbery and related charges. Frederick County schools will close for Great Frederick Fair Friday and staff in-service Monday.
