Cattle Foot Rot Warns Farmers in Pasture Dangers
Dr Robert Hammond of Maryland Extension veterinary warns farmers that cows suffer sore feet from foot rot caused by Actinomyces necrophorus. On damp muddy pastures with stones and rough weed stubble, cows cut their feet and develop heat swelling and pain. Early cleaning, removal of foreign material, topical treatments, and possible antibiotics help. Prevention includes keeping cows off rough ground and using foot baths or medicated powders.
