Evolution of co operation in early Britain and Rochdale origins
The All-American Co operative commission outlines that modern co operation traces to the eighteenth century with a dour mill society of 43 Sheffield clubs in 1795 aimed at defeating profiteers in milling. It aided members but faded due to inexperience in business matters. The original society expanded to shoes and milk trades, with sound cooperation dating from 1844 in Rochdale near Manchester.
