German war office reports severed Vilna Dvina railway communications and pushed Russians from several Dvina left bank positions from Friedrichstalt to Jacobstadt. Advancing troops reached Vilna Dvina and Petrograd corridors while pursuing force crossed toward Beckengrafen. Russians retreat due to Niemen salient. several hundred prisoners and two machine guns captured. fighting around Tam pel and Niemen front.
On Sept 14 at Os Indios near Brownsville Texas, four to five groups of Mexicans attacked three U S troopers from Troop C Twelfth Cavalry. One sergeant died, two troopers were seriously wounded, and five Mexicans were arrested for inquiry as authorities seek arrests of all involved on the U S side.
Jerome J. Sars once known as the boy banker of Argo suburb was jailed for three months by Judge Carpenter in U S district court. At nineteen he ran Industrial Savings Bank of Argo and the Argo post office and faced charges of misappropriating post office funds from the prior year. He repaid the money.
