Missionary Margaret Ankeney to Speak at Local Church Anniversary
Mrs. Margaret Ankeney, longtime Japan missionary, will address the Evangelical Reformed Church Sunday as part of a double anniversary series. The event marks the church’s cornerstone 200th anniversary and the 400th anniversary of the Heidelberg Catechism, with keynote notes on foreign missions and the Sendai work. Ankeney, born Tokyo to missionary parents, studied at Hood and Oberlin, served in Japan with her husband Rev Alfred Ankeney until his 1951 death, later earning Japan’s Fifth Order of the Sacred Treasure before settling in Troy. The United Church Board for World Ministries oversees missions in Japan under the United Church of Christ.
