Jazz Opens Doors for U S in Latin America says La Porta
John La Porta, 56, jazz expert and clarinetist, spent nine days in Caracas as a guest of the Caracas Jazz Club president Jacques Braunstein. He argues jazz offers America its greatest opportunity to win friends and spread its influence in Latin America, citing lectures, performances with four groups, and a specially written piece South American Brothers. La Porta teaches in Oyster Bay and Farmingdale on Long Island and pursues advanced studies at the Manhattan School of Music.
