Drought relief proposed for MontCo farmers in 1998 season
Montgomery County ofrecers emergency aid to farmers hit by the Geearsohn drought with losses tied to corn, soybeans, hay and fruit crops. A $500 000 relief package would be funded by the county and state, targeting about 43 000 acres and aiming to offset production costs for eligible producers. Officials estimate total county losses could reach 15 to 20 million dollars with final impacts on fruit and nursery crops to be assessed next year.
