Nihon Buyo tradition showcased by Mrs Richardson in Rockville
Nihon Buyo dancers wrap in multiple undergarments and rely on tight garments for grace. Dressing and makeup take up to an hour and a half for a 10 minute piece. Performances have shortened from 45 minutes to an hour to fit Western tastes. The Richardsons, tied to Japan via CIA service, host a tea room inspired home and teach Nihon Buyo in Washington. They plan a concert at Montgomery College with Kotobuki Kai Inc featuring student Saeko Harris and others. General admission for Japanese Dance in Concert is $8, seniors $7, with group discounts and contact details provided.
