Army moves 20-foot satellite dish from Fort Detrick to Camp Lejeune
An East Coast Telecommunications Center unit hauled a 20-foot satellite dish 420 miles to Camp Lejeune for the Solid Shield exercise. The 20-person team faced beltway traffic and narrow highways, set up in about 10 hours, and earned praise from Marines for efficiency. The MSQ-214 system is a mobile, state-of-the-art battlefield comms terminal, first deployed to Fort Detrick in 1982 with units sent to California, Europe, and Tobyhanna Army Depot.

Mobile Satellite Unit Showcases Deployment Drills
SFC John Gill leads the MSQ-114 satellite team deploying a mobile unit to Martinsburg in the first off base exercise. The van carrying equipment, load discipline on C-120 aircraft, and a 16 hour setup highlight a three phase training culminating in North Carolina with Germany to follow. The unit has operated since 1982, around the clock, with one minor injury.
