Bridge Contracts Awarded By County Commissioners
The county board awarded contracts for several bridges including a 45 foot wooden span over Hunting Creek near Mechanicstown to Geo. D. Fox for 122.12 dollars and a 30 foot span over Owens Creek near Bronzer's saw mill to A. S. Beatz for 140 dollars. A 135 foot half iron bridge over Montoney at Devilbiss with 16 feet roadway went to Columbia Bridge Company of Dayton, Ohio for 3035 dollars. Masonry work at Abslt's and Rameburg bridges near Middletown awarded to Weever and Craver. Abslt's at two per perch and Rameburg at 250 per perch. Iron bridge at Ahalt's near Middletown to Columbia Bridge Co. for 2790 dollars. The board adjourned until Monday.

Decrease in Cumberland Coal Shipments
Last week Cumberland coal shipments fell to 68,806 tons while the year total reached 2,108,160 tons, down 235,179 tons from 1888. The drop is attributed to the destruction of the mine by a recent calamity.

Roanoke City Growth From Seven Streets to 15000 Residents

Woman crushed to death between cars at depot in Washington
A 62 year old woman, Priscilla De Kratt, was killed yesterday morning when a car coupling caused her to be crushed at the 3B & C 8 R depot in Washington. She worked as a night car cleaner for 25 years and left a grown son employed by the company. Her life was insured for $500 with the B and O relief association.
