In New York on September 10, Mrs Ida O Neill shot her husband Charles O Neill in their apartment at the New York Fruit Exchange Building then killed herself. O Neill, a janitor, had planned to kill his wife after learning of alleged infidelity. He told the coroner he had intended murder followed by suicide with blank cartridges and recounted a confrontation in which she, imploring forgiveness, aided his plan until she seized the gun and killed him before shooting herself. Coroner Scholes found three letters in the apartment detailing wishes to forgive and arrange affairs.
