Parade marks 250th anniversary despite rain fears
Gov Thomas Johnson School groups led a long parade Saturday morning as weather held off. Greg Berczuk oversaw the Seventh Division and noted rain would not deter participants. Emerald Society Pipe Band played The Battle of Waterloo while Joan Jenkins float showcased 1910 era costumes. Sharon Smith of the parade committee described 167 units spanning up to a mile. Route traced Market and Seventh to Bentz Street and Patrick. The Sons of Confederate Veterans complained over renaming the Sabers and Roses Ball to the 250th Anniversary Ball, calling it insensitive to Confederate history.
