Press Group Approves Hall Of Fame In Maryland
The Maryland Press Association adopted a resolution to create a National Monument of Fame to journalists at Gathland State Park Western Maryland near War Correspondents Arch. The state will finance the site with journalist groups nationwide. Plans consider two designs a stone plaza and tower or twin towers with pens and pencils. Initial induction would include one representative from each state, four more added annually. Governor Tawes supported the memorial as a defense of press freedom. Debates also touched on renaming the association to Maryland Delaware Press Association if Delaware members join.
