Underground Pipe Project Near Walkersville Finished
Work completed last week placed a ten inch pipe under Route 194 south of Walkersville to serve a new development. Frank Stauffer said the State Roads Commission authorized forcing the pipe beneath the highway and a six inch water line will run inside it to connect with the Walkersville system. The 30 acre site along Route 1M is being prepared for 100 by 200 foot lots with several houses in progress across from Glade Village. Local contractor James Tyergar supervised the forcing operation, with ditches dug on both sides of the road and equipment used to push the pipe through.

Pipeline under Highway Through Ditch Method Common
The article notes that forcing a pipeline under a highway is rare locally. More commonly workers dig a trench in the roadway, lay the pipe, and then cover the hole to span from one side of the road to the other.
