Across Galicia and Prussia the war front shifts as Austrian and Russian forces clash. Reports claim Austrians withdraw partially, while Germany and Russia reinforce, with Przemysi and Lemberg figures cited. A new Austrian army is mobilized to join German units near the frontier, and Russian advances push toward Budapest as ferried troops surge into eastern Prussia.
A Athens dispatch says the Turks have about 80 000 men at Tchatelja and Rodesto to foil a Russian landing and fortify the Marmora coast as Turkey readies for possible intervention. Constantinople notes some may still favor intervention but reserves avoid offensive action amid economic strain. About 600 German officers are in Turkey and British merchant ships in the Black Sea are ordered home.
An Ostend dispatch reports German forces destroyed Dinant and executed hundreds of male residents after claiming civilians fired from nearby heights. One hundred prominent citizens were executed together in Place d Armes as fires burned the town and women were confined in convents.
Washington reports five thousand Servians captured near Mitrovich by Austrian forces. Dispatch also says 608 Russians seized on Russian soil as Austrian and German columns push east. Allied forces report major fighting near Compiègne and Montmirail with heavy German losses. Paris dispatch claims 30,000 prisoners taken as German retreat from the Ourcq and Marne regions continues. French and British armies report captures, but center engagements persist with force in motion toward Vitry-le-François.
