Beattie Guilty of Wife Murder in Virginia Trial

Beattie is found guilty of first degree murder in Chesterfield County Virginia. The jury deliberated briefly before returning the verdict as the judge set conditions for possible sentencing. execution by electrocution was noted as the penalty. Beattie showed visible emotion as the verdict was announced.

Henry Clay Beattie Jr and counsel sparred over trial errors and witnesses as Judge Watson overruled motions. Beattie was sentenced to die on November 24 after the jury found him guilty of murder in the first degree. the judge noted murder is presumed second degree unless the defense proves otherwise. Beattie’s father showed distress as the verdict stood. A separate Syracuse drowning report notes a female teen and companion drowned while boating on Onondaga Lake.

Outlook for crops shows mixed conditions across staples

U S Department of Agriculture Sept 1 crop report lists corn at 70.3 percent of normal with 23.6 bushels per acre, spring wheat 56.7 percent, all wheat 12.6 bushels, oats 64.5 percent, barley 66.5 percent, buckwheat 83.8 percent, potatoes 59.8 percent, tobacco 71.1 percent, flax 68.4 percent, rice 87.2 percent and a hay yield around 46.97 million tons. Apples stand at 56.2 percent of normal with quality 90.3.

Tarred School Teacher Arrests in Shady Bend Kansas

Eight men and boys were arrested and bonded in Shady Bend Kansas on a charge of tar and feathering Miss Mary Chamberlain a young schoolteacher. Names include Edward Alford E G Clark A M Simms John Schmidt Watson Scranton Jay Fitzwater Chester Anderson and Delbert Kindlesparger. The attack followed claims she discussed other women in the community with an escort taking her to a lonely spot where others tarred and feathered her before returning her home.
