Monroe Legacy Frames American Music, Skaggs Says
Nashville AP report notes Bill Monroe, founder of bluegrass, is praised as a pivotal figure in American music. Ricky Skaggs, John Fogerty and Dolly Parton join in tribute albums and a biography by Leonard Z. Smith highlights Monroe's influence across decades from the 1930s to the New Traditionalist era. Monroe’s life included hardship and strong rivalries, but his sound fused old white and African American music into a new bluegrass form with the Blue Grass Boys. The piece also mentions Monroe’s birth in Rosine, Kentucky and his enduring impact on artists across genres.
