State fire investigators probe a five alarm fire at the former Sagner building on Sagner Avenue damaging Ferguson Enterprises Digital Systems Frederick Cable Products and Frederick Manufacturing. Initial estimates suggest losses near a million dollars though figures await inside surveys. The blaze began in Ferguson Enterprises prompting the 11 44 p m call. The building owner is D Willard. Frederick County voters will choose party nominees Tuesday for offices from state central committee to governor and U.S. Senate. Turnout is uncertain, with past primaries showing 43 percent participation and 1982 general election at 63 percent. Geneva Laura Barthel a Frederick civic leader and former director of the county social services department died Sunday at Frederick Memorial Hospital. She was 75 and active in Goodwill Industries Scott Key Center Girl Scouts Counseling Services United Way and Zonta Club. Born June 12 1911 in Indianapolis she was the wife of George Barthel and mother to Donald G. Barthel and Mary L. East with five grandchildren. Funeral services 2 p.m. Wednesday at Etchison Memorial Chapel Frederick. Interment Mount Olivet Cemetery.

The Jeanne Bussard Training Workshop dedicates a new single story brick center on South Market Street with safer egress and improved accessibility.
