Severe water shortage hits Frostburg Maryland

Frostburg officials imposed strict water restrictions as a drought depletes supplies. About 650,000 gallons daily are drawn from Piney Mountain Dam serving 14,000 customers. Emergency rules ban washing cars and watering lawns with fines up to 100 dollars. A permit allows limited pumping from Savage Mountain wells through November. Dam storage inches down and rainfall and conservation helped extend supply to about 30 days.
