Election officials prepare for the primary with 71 000 official ballots distributed countywide. Training for all precinct workers set for 2 30 pm at the Court House as ballots and ballot boxes arrive. Democratic and Republican camps intensify pressure ahead of the vote with emphasis on the wet and dry issue.
Heavy rains inundated Carroll county with cloudburst levels Friday, flooding highways from Union Bridge to New Windsor and washing away a section of track near Union Bridge. The western Maryland Railroad halted freight traffic as main line service stopped Friday evening.
Hood College faculty members report returns from summer sessions. Miss Lilah R. Gant resumes duties after a Chicago stint and vacation in Stillwater. Miss Martha Thomas comes back to Frederick after visits in Washington DC and stays with the DeLashmutt family. Miss Maryn Grace Helfenstein returns as executive secretary of the Alumni Association after health a recovery. Mrs Martha Carson returns to Hana Friday after visiting her daughter. John D. Waring remains in Texas.

A visitation schedule was planned for all county councils and Frederick Council No. 118 is set to host the next meeting on December 6 in the lodge room. State View Councilor Jasper L. Huff of Cumberland spoke, eight of eleven county councils attended, and the association outlined fall plans and efforts to boost unit activity.
William V. Rose former Maryland Inn proprietor is accused of planning to abscond with assets to defraud creditors. Jacob A. Kidwiler and Sarah H. Kidwiler seek a writ of attachment in Circuit Court after Rose allegedly admitted owing $625 for labor and improvements and now threatens concealment of property. Rose has run multiple beer resorts and recently transferred the Maryland Inn to a new owner.
A meeting of the Citizens Fire Truck Company directors announced new speed and seating rules. A maximum speed of 235 miles per hour is set for responding to alarms, and limits on how many firemen may ride on the truck are outlined.
In Gettysburg Pa on September 6 Mrs Mary Ellen Darr 57 of York Springs had her right leg amputated below the knee at Warner Hospital after a truck driver Irvin K Lermoore 28 of Baltimore struck her while she walked along the highway A man Stanley C Myers 27 of Taneytown stopped to lend aid and the truck hit the woman As the rear wheel passed over her the patrolman said The incident occurred as Myers attempted to help the injured woman The report notes the truck driver was not named in the excerpt and other details are fragmentary.
Thousands lined up by noon for the Conley-for-Governor barbecue at Frederick county Fair grounds. A crowd of about 1 000 grew steadily, with traffic control by state police and plans for speeches by Dr Charles H Conley and local candidates. Food service ran late, with roast beef, rolls, cheese and drinks for the crowd.
A pon-support case against Charles Devilbise was continued by Justice Bower in Peomes Court jail morning to Monday at 10 o'clock. No bond was asked. The prosecuting witness, represented by State's Attorney Sinn and Mrs Michael B. Pue of the Children's Aid Society.

Washington dispatch says the textile strike committee led by Francis J. Gorman appeared before President Roosevelts board to explain the employers position in the giant walkout. The committee outlined workers demands and described milling conditions with satisfaction at progress from the committee view.
Rev B J Barnes of Mt Airy was re elected president of the Ministerial Association Western Shore District Methodist Protestant Church at the annual meeting in Westminster. Officers include W H Stone Uniontown vice president F B Bailey Smallwood Carroll secretary treasurer and Mrs B I Barnes chair of the Missionary Society. The Foreign Missionary Society of Uniontown M P Church celebrates its 50th anniversary, with two charter members Mrs Scott Ruph and Miss Rue Bust noted. The next Missionary Society meeting will be at New Market church on Tuesday November 13.
The Samacvan Renekah Lodge of Frederick held its annual banquet at Hayes Culiage Braddokit on Thursday. Attendees included Hartington Paucns Koonz Cath firnt Elser Gelda Case Betha El Fin and others with three new members welcomed. The group planned a future food sale and noted routine association business.
Argentina filed a formal protest through Ambassador Felipe Espu in Washington over a remark by Senator Deag oat during the arms inquiry. The protest, presented by Sumner Welles, claimed the senator hinted the official could face influence in the Munition investigation. Meanwhile three Frederick men enlisted in the U S Army, with posts in artillery, medical, and infantry units, including service in China. Forecast notes a week of near normal temps with periods of showers midweek, then fair to end of week.

Miss Camilla E. Conroy secretary to Herbert R. O Conor of Baltimore was aboard the Morro Castle when it burned off the New Jersey coast early today. Conroy is the secretary to the state attorney and Democratic candidate for Maryland attorney general.
