Social Security to overhaul disability claims process
The Social Security Administration plans a five year overhaul to speed up disability decisions, cut staff from 25 to eight, and reduce processing from 155 days to under 60, with a face to face meeting for claimants and elimination of two appeal levels. The plan costs 148 million dollars but is projected to save 852 million through 2001.
