Mack and Mabel opens Kennedy Center season with Bernadette Peters
Bernadette Peters shines as Mabel Normand in Mack and Mabel at the Kennedy Center Opera House. Robert Preston struggles to lift the uneven musical as Jerry Herman’s score delivers a standout number When Mabel Comes Into the Room. Despite moments of brilliance and inventive sets by Robin Wagener, the show feels unfinished with uninspired dance routines and a shaky overall shape. Peters is hailed as a rising star whose performance lingers beyond the final curtain. The production runs through Sept 28.
