Mystery Arctic Crossing: Nautilus Ice Study Surprises
Cmdr William R. Anderson, skipper of the Nautilus, reports winter Arctic ice is thinner than summer, enabling possible easier submarine crossings. He notes Barrow, Alaska, as a key location and cautions ice data may yield surprising results when published. He confirms the Arctic Basin remains very deep with deep Atlantic approaches and shallow Pacific approaches.
