Governor's Day At Fair in Timonium Marked by Tragedy
The Maryland State Fair opened with Joseph W. Shirley Jr. and family grieving his father’s death as they showed Chartley Farm stock in the show ring. Shirley, a longtime director and draft horse superintendent, is mourned while his son Robert and wife Margaret continue the family display. Attendance dropped modestly as officials carry on with Farm Bureau events and planned governor’s day activities tomorrow.
