A bridge hand unfolds with a declarer using trumps and ruffs to gain control. The dummy’s spades and clubs are maneuvered while the opponents misread suits and West fails to discard hearts, allowing the declarer to cash hearts and force a favorable endgame.
McKenney recounts a bridge hand played with Mrs. Margaret Olimer at Lake Hopatcong New Jersey. The narrative covers bidding decisions involving a one no trump opening and a two spades response, with Mrs Olimer later winning a trick in dummy after West led the ace of clubs and jack.
A quick spreading fire damaged Seton High School in Baltimore, injuring no one as firemen fought flames that started in an organ system on the third floor. The Sisters of Charity and Sister Margaret Mann saw the blaze before dawn, forcing evacuations from the main building and adjoining corridor.
In Sjamsville, firemen rescued a hand carved statue of the Blessed Virgin as flames threatened the building. Parishioners prayed through the ordeal and the W S C met in the parish hall on September 3 with devotion, hymns, and a program focusing on faith and courage.
Ley presided and announced a musical program by the Upper Montgomery County Church Singers led by Mev. McGill pastor for September 12 at 8 o'clock in the Iiamsville Methodist Church.
