Indicted Teen linked to Frederick murder case

Frederick County Grand Jury indicted Melvin Smyth known as Rock for first degree murder in the May 4 shooting of Code Brinkley in a parking lot behind John Hanson Apartments. FBI obtained a federal warrant as efforts to locate Smyth continue. weapon not recovered.

Urbana crime scene: body found in burning van identified

Maryland State Police identified Joseph Riedmuller, 29, of Walkersville, as the man found inside a smoldering 1994 Dodge Caravan in a field behind the Villages of Urbana development near Md 355 and Md 80. Dental records confirmed the death, with police treating the case as suspicious and investigating homicide or suicide. A rifle lay in the back seat. the skull was not intact and the medical examiner's office would determine the cause of death. The discovery was reported by surveyors at about 7:40 a.m. near a remote field.

West Nile virus research at Fort Detrick team studies mosquito vectors

Army scientists at Fort Detrick study Aedes japonicus and Culex species to map West Nile transmission. Led by entomologist Michael Turell, the six person unit aims to determine breeding, feeding, and biting patterns to better guide CDC public risk reduction.
