Fourth annual Bull Roast hosted by Kiwanis clubs
Lions host a Bull Roast fundraiser sponsored by the Frederick and Walkersville Kiwanis Clubs. The event, the fourth annual roast, happens Saturday Sept. 9 from 3 to 7 pm at Walkersville carnival grounds with beef, short ribs, chicken, hot dogs, trimmings, soda and beer. Advance adult tickets are $9 from Kiwanis members, proceeds benefiting Kiwanis Charities. The note adds context about the North Central Association’s founding in 1895 and early accreditation in 1913.

End of Mandatory Retirement as a Policy Debate
The piece argues that mandatory retirement at 65 is outdated and harmful, citing studies showing older workers learn as well as younger ones and fewer absences. It notes productivity gains from older staff, risks to pension systems, and the burden on Social Security, urging delayed retirement and broader management adaptation. It references Burpee Seed Company and Congress debates, warning of stigmatizing age or bias while stressing workforce needs in a difficult economy.
