An armed Patriot band led by Isaac Sears raided James Rivington’s Hanover Square shop on November 23 1775, smashing the press and dispersing printing types. Earlier a May 10 1775 mob damaged the shop and attempted to kidnap Rivington, who fled to a British ship.
