Figures from the Collector of Customs show Baltimore exported 6,669,981 bushels of wheat valued near $5,000,000 in August, far above last year’s 821,031 bushels. Moments of Kindness and Fulfillment in Verse

A pair of short poems celebrate benevolence and ambition. The first, credited to Isang Ricuey, in Twentieth Century Farmer, extols the power of a kind word or smile to soothe weariness and brighten a lonely road. The second, by E Kiser, depicts a man who pursues greatness only to be met with indifference as age and toil age him, provoking a lingering sense of misread worth.
