Ladies plan Star Spangled Banner replica in Baltimore
The Ladies of Baltimore organize to create a facsimile of the Star Spangled Banner with Miss Adeham Schley as president and Miss Susie Bouldin as secretary. Georgie A. Schley assists in flag construction while James Shellman named Guard of Honor for the Battle Flag of 1812 celebration in Baltimore on September 12. A separate report notes a disturbance at Art Point of Rocks involving a baby in a bag and a Havana cigar sold for 5 cents. Mountain Lake Park enjoys a strong season with plans for capitalists to buy land, build cottages, and add an electric-light plant and expand the lake shore.

New Departure In Paving Practices Affects Cobble Streets
A Washington D C correspondent notes two Washington papers describe a new paving method by Capt Symons on E Street between Pennsylva nia Avenue and 15th Street. Instead of removing the cobbles, asphalt is laid over them and the joints fired with a bituminous binder. The idea, if applied to Frederick streets, would save excavation and base work, representing a fresh approach to cobble to asphalt conversion across the District. The Orphans Court heard several estate matters and the Baltimore market report noted firm prices for various grains and related commodities alongside crop receipts and storage figures.
