NSA memorial honors clandestine aerial guardians
The National Security Agency unveiled an Aerial Reconnaissance Memorial and National Vigilance Park in an emotional ceremony near Fort Meade. About 2,000 people attended to honor Cold War crews from 1950s to 1970s, including the C 130A crew shot down over Soviet Armenia in 1958. Relatives spoke of long waits for answers as the centerpiece aircraft was refurbished to resemble the downed plane. Surrounding trees symbolize each type of reconnaissance aircraft lost during the era.
