Local Labor Day telethon raises $8750 in Frederick
The Muscular Dystrophy Association drive at the Weinberg Center for the Arts fell short of its $10,000 goal with $8,750 raised. Kinna led pledges while about fifty volunteers staffed seven phones Sunday night through Monday. A bucket brigade collected about $1,200, aided by Jaycees hot dog sales and face painting donations. Olive Engle cited recession as a factor, but stressed every dollar counts. Derek Ortiz, 10, joined as MDA Goodwill Ambassador for the region.
