Maryland land preservation program hampered by budget woes
ANNAPOLIS AP The state's budget problems are delaying the agricultural preservation program. The entire 17 million dollar budget was shifted to cover shortfalls, leaving funds to pay farmers who sold development rights in doubt. Officials warn of reduced interest and potential loss of farms to development as bonds and tax revenues struggle to materialize. The setback comes as lenders face tightened credit amid recession both slowing development and preserving farmland.
