Reports from Plymouth and London detail Captain F T Courtney and crew delaying a projected trans Atlantic flight toward London due to strong headwinds. The Whale flying boat attempted ascents near Falmouth and Horta as observers tracked its course toward the Azores, New York, and eventual return.
The 13 year old New York twins Phyllis and Bernice Zitten feild started at 1 43 a m and abandoned after four hours as wind whipped seas near Cape Gris Nez France. One swimmer left at 4 07 a m and the other at 4 37 a m with worsening conditions. Miss Lorna Nariot of England also gave up her attempt sailing under the same banner.
A major exhibit set at Halethorpe near Baltimore from September 24 to October, the Fair of Iron Horse chronicles the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad’s origins and progress. The Hall of Transportation and a sweeping Pageant display locomotives, signaling, cars, bridges, and the evolution of railroading, with a large public program and a 1,000 acre site.
Wireless message from the cutter Gresham reported airplane engine sound about 20 miles at sea from Sea Girt New Jersey. Coast Guard officials noted the sound seemed to travel in a circle but no aircraft was sighted due to low visibility.
Frederick gears up for its inaugural Fashion and Business Show at the Armory from September 27 to 30 featuring about sixty exhibitors including Hood College L. B. Nicodemus New Citizen Publishing and Manufacturing Co Maytag and other city leaders. Thomas Fisher of Lime Kiln, age about 30, died after being struck on a railroad track near Syhearle while waiting for another train. He sat on the track and reportedly fell asleep, the engineer unable to stop in time. Fisher, married and father of several, died in a Baltimore hospital early this morning. Additional details were not available. A separate note reports a $100,000 road house fire near Stroudsburg, with real estate loss and widespread damage.
The Central Trust Company of Maryland reopened its Union Bridge branch with about 100 visitors from Frederick Siddietown Hagerstown Westminster Baltimore and Gettystown. The remodel included a York vault safe deposit boxes new filing unit upgraded lobby and conference rooms. Renowned attendees included architect Robert L. Harris and a formal reception with gifts and refreshments.

Owners Samuel Augherman and his wife were at Pleasant View Church of the Brethren when intruders robbed their near Burkittsville home between 9 30 and 10 20 PM. Items stolen include a silver watch revolver cake jelly preserves oil cash and a five gallon can of oil. An automobile was seen nearby and a lone woman claimed a gasoline run. Sheriff Redmon investigated with Deputy Redmon and suspects named.
