Prisoners tied to San Diego plan in Texas invasion scare
In San Antonio authorities rounded up three leaders after a Sunday street meeting sparked threats against Americans and calls to “rise” against gringoes. Federal officials plan treason and armed-resistance charges for those held as part of the alleged plan to recapture Texas for Mexico. Early reports linked the defendants to the San Diego scheme amid regional unrest along the lower Rio Grande. Elsewhere, John A. Sayles, an American cotton grower in the Coahuila district, was shot at San Pedro de Las Colonias, with details unclear if it was a quarrel or execution by a Villista colonel.
