War Production Board orders end of liquor manufacture by Nov 1
Chicago reports the War Production Board will halt whiskey and other spirit production by November 1 as 128 distilleries convert to war alcohol. 476 million gallons are planned for next year with 28 distilleries already producing for war. Grain alcohol producers will bear the load as fruit brandies offer equipment and capacity. No shortage expected with 550 million gallons stockpiled for future years.
