A Knoxville mass meeting for the city primary was canceled after a race riot at the jail left streets patrolled by soldiers and deputies. Negroes were barred from downtown, the jail partly repaired, and the grand jury set to convene Wednesday amid ongoing investigations and mass expulsions from the city.
