Day Care Center Draws Opposition in Frederick

More than 50 opponents filled Frederick City Hall as the Zoning Board weighed a conditional usage request by Paul and Mrs. Ganley to open a day care center at 1105 Rosemont Avenue. The plan would convert the first floor for 20 children and the second floor for administration, with a fenced outdoor play area and minor exterior changes. The hearing lasted two and a half hours with over 10 witnesses. The Ganleys argued the center would meet Health Department standards and zoning rules permit nurseries if properly fenced and set back. The board postponed a decision, noting the proposal requires conditional use under R-3 zoning rather than a rezoning.
