Teuton Warships in Channel Raid Engage British Ships
London reports a major open sea clash in the English Channel as German mosquito flotillas attacked British forces. Ten German destroyers fought through a gale to collide with British destroyers and troop transports, sinking the Queen and Nubian and wounding or drowning several crews while the Nubian later foundered. Three German destroyers were sunk in the tumult, and the raid marks the first sizable German surface action since Jutland.
