Officers from Frederick City Police and Frederick County Sheriff's Office brief for Operation Roundup a reverse sting where undercover officers pose as dealers and sell weakened cocaine to arrest buyers. Demonstrators marched to Frederick City Police Station protesting an Oct. 21 curfew raid on the Rainbow Hunan Restaurant and Lounge. About 14 participants organized by the Junta of Militant Organizations urged a downtown boycott and accused police of brutality against 28 juveniles nabbed for curfew violations.
An elderly Howard County man, Richard Schneider, 84, of Ellicott City, died after a two-vehicle crash on U.S. 15 near Thurmont. The crash involved his car and a Toyota pickup driven by Stacy Seiss, 20, of Thurmont, who was turning onto U.S. 15 when the collision occurred. Seiss and the younger Schneider, 38, were hospitalized and the incident is investigated by the Frederick County Sheriff's Office.
Frederick exterminator branch manager Paul Kouvaris discusses bat control as a job, noting about 20 annual calls to rid attics of bats. He describes bats as related pests, cites their feces and parasites, but says brown bats in Frederick are not as dangerous as feared and that proper methods keep people safe.

The Committee to Save the Schroder Farm and Frederick Residents for Environmental Defense raised funds to aid legal costs as opposition to land acquisition persisted since the county first offered 1.5 million for 230 acres, later raised to 1.8 million in 1990.
