Plane Dives To Safety Over Wilmington NC
A Pan American Airlines liner with 45 aboard dived to safety over Wilmington North Carolina under a formation of an Air Force tanker and two jet lifters. Copilot aided the crew as passengers witnessed the jet deceleration and regained level flight. The incident prompted a CAA investigation and involved Captain George Peteler and a 17 year veteran pilot from XAL Airlines.
